Devon Spencer

June 4, 1927 - Feb. 14, 2013

— Devon Spencer, 85, Kokomo, passed away at 12:02 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at his residence.

Born June 4, 1927, in Frankfort, he is the son of the late Ira Spencer and Beulah (Yantes) Spencer. On April 14, 1945, in Frankfort, he married Clara E. (Fisher). She preceded him in death on Jan. 14, 1997.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during World War II. He was employed with Nickel Plate Railroad in Frankfort, then with Chrysler as a machinist, being in the first class to graduate in the apprenticeship program. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #685 and Eagles Lodge. He loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed playing spinners and cards with a shout out to his friends at Waffle House.

Survivors include one daughter, Joan Householder, Kokomo; special friend and companion, Lois Binney, Royal Center; one grandson, Timothy Carl Spencer; one great-granddaughter, Natasha (Matthew) Cleaver; one great-great grandson, Devin Alexander Cleaver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Bobby Spencer; two brothers, Jerry and Eddie Spencer; two sisters, Wanda Lasiter and Lola Dowden; and one grandson, Chuck Householder III.

Services will be 1 p..m. Tuesday in Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., Kokomo. Richard Morrow will officiate. Entombment with military rites by the Marine Corps League and the Kokomo Military Rites Team will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
