Claude E. Offutt

Claude E. Offutt, 86, Greentown, died at 8:42 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at his residence. He was born March 18, 1924, in Boone County, Ky., to Claude A. and Ada (Roach) Offutt. On Aug. 14, 1947, he married Geraldine L. (McGraw) Offutt, and she survives.

Claude graduated from Kokomo High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. He retired from Mohr Construction in 1986 after 27 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed racing go-carts and golfing.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine L. (McGraw) Offutt; sons, Thomas E. (Cathy) Offutt, Peru, Robert J. Offutt, Greentown, and Donald R. (Suzanne) Offutt, Noblesville; brothers-in-law, Meritt McGraw, Kokomo, and John (Marilyn) McGraw, Fairmount; sisters, Irene Offutt, Windfall, and Ginny (Jim) Poole, Windfall; grandchildren, Timothy Offutt, Gregory (Tina) Offutt, Matthew (Wynde) Offutt and Meghan Offutt; three stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carolyn Offutt; one brother, Leo Offutt; two sisters-in-law, Pat Offutt and Lena McGraw; and one grandson, Monty Offutt.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 127 S. Meridian St., Greentown, with a military service provided by the American Legion Post 317. Pastor Michael Goodspeed and Chaplain Joyce Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, Ellis, Phlox, following the service. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
