Virgil ‘Tom’ Sharp


— Oct. 5, 1957 - Sept. 3, 2010

Tom Sharp, 74, Kokomo, passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Sycamore Village in Kokomo. He was born on May 15, 1936, in Normanda, to Paul B. and Inez M. (Jones) Sharp. Tom married Renata Conrad on Oct. 5, 1957.

He graduated in 1954 from Jefferson Township High School in Kempton. He was a member of the Kempton Christian Church and attended St. Patrick’s Church in Kokomo.

He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge and the Lion‘s Club both of Kempton. Tom was a member of the Indiana National Guard, serving from 1953 to 1956.

Prior to retirement, Tom worked at Kokomo Tube but will be most remembered for his years of service at Montgomery Wards in Kokomo. Tom was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.

He enjoyed spending time tinkering on his farm and devoting time as a volunteer at Clinton Central High School and at St. Johns School in Tipton where he worked in the libraries as a tutor.

Survivors include his wife, Renate, Kokomo; his children, Brian K. Sharp and fiancé Tina LeMay, Tipton County, Heidi and husband John Freeman, Kempton, Dan and wife Christy Sharp, Sharpsville; along with his grandchildren, James Hunter, Kansas, Missy Sharp and friend Tommy Cooksey, Fishers, and Hayden and Nicole Sharp, both of Sharpsville; two sisters, Sandra Huff, Kokomo, and Lind Teter, Tetersburg, also survive.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Wanda Floyd and Joan Shock.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Porters. Interment will follow in Normanda Cemetery. Pastor Ed Smith will officiate.
