Donald Burrell Etherington, 81, Russiaville, went to be with the Lord at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at his home. He was born Nov. 25, 1930, in Howard County to Russell and Frieda (Coe) Etherington. He was married Oct. 8, 1960, to Barbara (O’Neal) Etherington, who survives.
He retired after 37 years at Delco Electronics. He graduated from West Middleton High School in 1948 and served 12 years in the National Guard.
He was a member of Christian Heritage Church, life member of American Quarter Horse Association, member of Point Horse Association and UAW Local 292. Donald was such a caring person that he would open his house up to those who needed a place to stay or even if a person needed clothing he was always there for anyone in need of help.
He had an avid love for farm animals, especially horses, elk and ducks. He loved God, his children and his loving wife.
Survivors are his wife, Barbara Etherington; children, Donnie (Virginia) Etherington, Rita (Kenny) Buchanan, Michelle Etherington VanWinkle (Derek Vemeth), Natalie (Rodney) Godfrey, Addie Etherington (Tony Freeman) and Brenda (Robert) Ortega; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; companion dog, Bella; and brother, Bobby Etherington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Gene “Ricky” Etherington; and three great-grandchildren, Sierra, Chandler and Chloe.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christian Heritage Church, 3007 E. Carter St., with Pastor Steve Bratcher officiating. Cremation will take place. Friends will be able to visit with the family after the funeral services.
