Wilbur Eikenberry


April 14, 1914 - March 12, 2010

Wilbur Eikenberry, 95, Kokomo, passed away peacefully at 7 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at Waterford Place Health Campus surrounded by his children. He was born April 14, 1914, to Alva Clifton and Effie May (Benge) Eikenberry near Beard. On July 8, 1938, in Clinton County, he married Adonis (Donna) Newport Hawks. She preceded him in death on June 1, 1991.

Wilbur graduated from Michigantown High School in 1932. He retired from Delco Electronics in Kokomo in 1974 after 341/2 years of service. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, playing the guitar Mandolin, and harmonica, playing checkers and euchre, bowling, flying, and being a HAM radio operator (KA9BSJ). He loved spending time with his family and doing activities with his grandchildren. He was a member of Christian Heritage Church. He belonged to the Delco Salaried Retirees Association.

He is survived by three sons and two daughters; a son, the Rev. Larry J. Hawks and wife Sherry; a daughter, Sandra “Susie” Boggs and husband Verlin; son, Michael G. and wife Susanne; son, Gayle A. and wife Joyce; and daughter, Rebecca “Becky” McJunkins and husband William “Bob,” all of Kokomo; one sister, Margaret Campbell and husband Richard of Mesa, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary, Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christian Heritage Church, 3007 E. Carter St., Kokomo. There will be one hour of visiting prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers at Waterford Place Health Campus, St. Joseph Hospital and Guardian Angel Hospice.
