Milton L. Dunham, 70, Jonesboro, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at his home in Jonesboro. He was born Oct. 25, 1938, in Grant County, the son of the late Milton Dunham and the late Hannazola (Davis) Dunham. He married Darlene Thompson on March 3, 1969. Darlene survives in Jonesboro.
Mr. Dunham graduated from Fairmount High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a millwright at Chrysler in Kokomo. He retired on Sept. 30, 1999, after 36 years. He had also worked at RCA, Standard Store, Marion, and had farmed.
Milton faithfully attended the Main Street Wesleyan Church where he served as a greeter. He was a member of the Jonesboro Historical Society and the Fairmount Alumni Committee. He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending their activities. He was an Indy Racing and NASCAR fan, along with the Colts and Pacers. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking, birdwatching, walks with his wife and trips to Shipshewana. Milton never met a stranger and always had a story to tell.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Karie (Joe) Merrill, Fairmount, April (Roger) Randolph, Jonesboro, Dawn Collins, Marion, Trishia (Reece) Manning, Jonesboro; two sons, Eric (Kelly) Elkins, Fairmount, Todd (Karen) Elkins, Auburn; grandchildren, Stephanie (Andy) Howard, Grant Mitchener, Caleb, Danielle and Colton Dunham, Ryan Randolph, Lindsay and Matthew Elkins, Andrew Collins, Jerod Williams, Nathan Martin and Daysha Martin Evans, Erika Manning, Clayton and Katie Elkins, Erin, Taylor and Mason Elkins, Kevin and Brianna Merrill, Mark Manning and Brad (Jaime) Manning; two sisters, Dawnetta (George) Tomlin, Fairmount, Patricia Guiterrez, Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, Harlon (Evelyn) Dunham, Jonesboro, Thomas Dunham, Jonesboro, Daniel (Diane) Dunham, Fairmount; sisters-in-law, Shirley Stace, Marion, Sharon Thompson, Fairmount, Janie (Dewey) Jefferies, Jonesboro, Marylou (Marcus) Winslow, Jonesboro, Phyllis Haynes, Marion, Joyce (Forest) Troyer, Dekalb, Ill.; brother-in-law, Wilbur Justus; former brother-in-law, Jerry (Kay) Cole, Fairmount; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Cole Dunham, in 2004.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Main Street Wesleyan Church, Jonesboro, with the Reverands Stephen Mowat, Al Soultz and David Scott officiating. The family will receive friends 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, and one hour before services Wednesday at the church. Interment is at Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Main Street Wesleyan Church Building Fund, Cancer Services of Grant County or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
