Nancy Carol (Hullinger) Ross

Sept. 18, 1934 - Dec. 28, 2012

Nancy Carol (Hullinger) Ross, 78, Kokomo, passed away at 2:23 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Seton Specialty Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born Sept. 18, 1934, in Marion to the late Harvey Reel Hullinger and Nancy Ellen (Burnworth) Hullinger. On Feb. 23, 1957, in Marion, Nancy married John Edward “Jack” Ross and he survives.

She graduated from Mier School in Mier and many years later she enrolled in continuing education classes at Indiana University Kokomo. Nancy was a stay-at-home mother for the boys. She enjoyed family vacations at fishing resorts in Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. She also enjoyed tent camping in Indiana State Parks.

She was a 20-year veteran Boy Scout leader and had been a den mother, troop committee member and an associate Explorer advisor for the Civil Defense’s coeducational Explorer post. Through Nancy’s guidance, all of her sons became Eagle Scouts.

After her sons became adults, Nancy relaxed at home, playing her electric organ, singing songs of happiness, reading her Bible and praying to Lord Jesus to be her guide. Nancy attended a tornado spotting class during an Indiana Amateur Radio Convention shortly after the 1965 Palm Sunday tornadoes and more recently received yearly SkyWarn training; she also attended an advanced storm-spotting symposium. She and Jack W9HTA were SkyWarn partners, and she had been an associate member of the Kokomo Amateur Radio Club. She was also a member of the Wildcat Valley Muzzle Loading Gun Club.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Ross; sons and daughters-in-law, John Ross, Westfield, Jim Ross, Kokomo, Joe (Deede) Ross, Kokomo, and Jeff (Sammie) Ross, North Vernon; grandchildren, Stephanie Ross, Alex Ross, Chris Ross, Corey Ross, Angel Ross and Joey Ross, Kokomo, Adam Ross and Zach Ross, North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Abbey Ross, Alley Ross, Isaiah Ross, Jaxson Ross, Macie Straub and Mason Ross, Kokomo, Wyatt Ross and Arabella Ross, North Vernon; and brother, Bob (Rita) Hullinger, Kokomo.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Terri Ross; great-grandson, Xavier Ross; sisters, Marillyn Hullinger and Norma Planck; and brother, Harvey Hullinger Jr.  

The funeral service for Nancy will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo, with Pastor Paul Enochs officiating. Following the funeral service, Nancy will be laid to rest in Thraikill Cemetery, Converse. All of Nancy’s friends and family are welcome to join together for a time of visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, also at the mortuary.

    Denver R. Walker, 61, Kokomo, formerly of Ridge Farm, Ill., passed away at 6:38 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Century Villa Health Care. He was born Nov. 1, 1951, in Danville, Ill., the son of Denver Ralph and Sarah (Walthall) Walker. On June 7, 1997, he married Cynthia L. “Cindy” Hultz from Veedersburg, and she survives him.

Fred was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Kokomo, to the late Emmett and Dorothy (Clark) Bagwell. He graduated from Kokomo High School.

    Christine “Granny” “Mother Goose” Cornelia Ligon, 96, Kokomo, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. She was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Baron Plain, Tenn., the daughter of the late Tommy and Laura (Turner) King. On July 21, 1934, Christine married Timothy Calvin Ligon Jr. and they were happily married until his passing on Nov. 3, 1956.
