Edwin Joseph “Bud” Marx lost his long battle with Alzheimer’s on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012. He was born March 20, 1929, in Mineola, N.Y, the son of Joseph A. and Nina B. Marx. On June 23, 1956, he married Gladys Marx, in Flint, Mich., and she survives.
He graduated from Grand Blanc High School in Michigan in 1947 and Michigan State University in 1952. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1952 to 1954.
Bud worked for General Motors for 39 years at AC Spark Plug in Flint, Mich., and later at Delco Electronics in Kokomo until he retired in 1994. During that time, he was in sales and was also advertising manager.
He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, a member of the Parish Council, and volunteered for various activities, including counting envelopes for many years. Bud was also a member of the American Legion Post 6, SCORE, Elks Lodge 190 and taught reading for the Reading Coalition. He was involved with United Way for many years and was committee chairman. He was also a member of the board of directors for the Devon Woods-Rolling Acres Homeowners Association. Bud loved playing his drums and also loved sailing and sailed frequently at Lake Maxinkuckee. For many years he was a member of the Sports Car Club of America and participated in many events.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gladys Marx; three children, Gregory Marx, Indianapolis, Catherine Ebeling, St. Louis, Mo., and Brian Marx of Venice, Fla.; five grandchildren, Abigail and Alexander Marx, Greenfield, and Christin, James and Daniel Ebeling, St. Louis, Mo.; and his sister, Jean Hoelzle; and four nieces, Flint, Mich.
He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, with the Rev. Fr. Anthony Roland as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Messages of condolence may be expressed online at www.sunsetmemorygarden.com. Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
