Donald G. Burket

March 2, 1929 - Dec. 31, 2012

Donald G. Burket, 83, Tipton, died at 2:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at IU Health Tipton Hospital. He was born March 2, 1929, in Tipton, to Donald and Julie Alice (Dodd) Burket. He married Norma Jane Porter on Oct. 24, 1946, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 2008. He then married Carolyn Bolton on Jan. 2, 2011, and she survives.

Don retired as a supervisor at Delco Electronics in 1987. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Tipton. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and working in his Christmas tree farm and apple orchard.

Survivors besides his wife, Carolyn, include four children, Steven Burket and wife Marlene, Bradenton, Fla., Jane Galloway and husband Joe, Kokomo, Rex Burket and wife Rhonda, Kokomo, and Brian Burket, of Kokomo; three step-children, Debra Gensh and husband Tim, Eagle Lake, Fla., Susan Denicola and husband Lynch, Elwood, and Tom Bolton, Elwood; one sister, Phyllis Elliott and husband Ora Max of Brown County; and two sisters-in-law, Jody Burket, Avon, and Jane Burket, Warren.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Michael Burket, Tyson Schoolman and wife Jodi, Kyle and Brett Galloway, Ashleigh, Tracey, Rex and Noah Burket, Matt Burket and Allison Gibson and husband Jake; two step-grandchildren, Christy Cumings and husband Tony and Robert Buecker; three great-grandchildren, Cole Riley, Karsyn Schoolman and Miley Schoolman; two step-great-grandchildren, Collin Horton and Mikayla Cumings.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Burket, and one daughter, Debra Bowman.

Don’s funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Tipton, with the Rev. Mark Ward presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
