Brian Jay Smith

Jan. 29, 1963 - Dec. 29, 2012

Brian Jay Smith, 49, passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at his home. He was born Jan. 29, 1963, in Marion, to Max and Janice Smith. He graduated in the Class of 1981 from Northwestern High School.

Brian loved helping anyone and everyone, especially children. He had a passion for farming and pulling 4010 “All Jacked Up” John Deere. His hobbies included restoring and painting farm machinery and equipment (and anything else that may have rolled into his shop) along with building, tuning and pulling tractors and trucks. He was a member of the N.T.P.A and the owner and operator of Smith Custom Farming.

Brian is best remembered by his kind heart and helping hand. He was always there to help and advise the best he could in any situation, even if it had to be done “the Brian Smith way.”

He is survived by his parents, Max and Janice Smith; sister, Sue Harrison; brother, Brent Smith; niece, Tara Harrison; nephew, Dalton Smith; and several aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harold and Julia Jones; paternal grandmother, Beulah LaRue; and brother-in-law, Doug Harrison.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of several charities close to Brian’s heart, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Riley Children’s Hospital and the Miami County 4-H program.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Miami County 4-H Fairgrounds, with burial following in Galveston Cemetery. Friends may visit from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at the fairgrounds.

Arrangements were entrusted to Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home.
