Delmar L. Kelly

Sept. 8, 1933 - Jan. 1, 2013

Delmar L. Kelly, 79, Alexandria, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Riverview Hospital, Noblesville, after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 8, 1933, in Anderson, the son of Roy and Maxine (Iseminger) Kelly.

He retired in 1995 from Guide Lamp Corp., where he had worked as a welder for more than 31 years. He had also been a farmer his whole life.

Delmar was a 1951 graduate of Somerset High School. He married Shirley J. Fansler Nov. 14, 1954. He was a member of the Orestes Christian Church and a member of the United Auto Workers Union No. 663. Delmar and Shirley loved spending time in Florida. He enjoyed boating, water skiing and working in his yard. He especially enjoyed riding on his golf cart with his grandchildren.

His family includes his wife of 58 years, Shirley J. Kelly, Alexandria; four children, Dena (husband Gene) Brewer, Shelby, N.C., Pat (husband Joe) Everling, Elwood, Janet Null, Cicero, and Bob (wife Sally) Kelly, Alexandria; seven grandchildren, Kelly (husband James) Bruhn, Kim (husband Greg) Durm, Wade (wife Nikki) Collier, Wesley Collier, Shanna Kelly, Blaize Kelly and Blaine Kelly; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin Durm, Katherine Durm, Avery Bruhn, Axl Collier, Cy Collier and Karma Collier; a great-grandchild expected in January 2013; special niece, Connie Lester; and a beloved cat, “Mr. Smokey.”

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry Kelly and Lavoice Kelly; and sister-in-law, Norma Kelly.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, Elwood, with the Rev. Courtley Granger of the Orestes Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
