Robert C. Swain

Robert C. Swain, 87, Kokomo, died at 3:47 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Golden Living Center Sycamore Village. He was born Jan. 22, 1925, to Louis R. and Catherine H. (Henn) Swain. On Jan. 31, 1951, Bob married Maxine A. (Schuering) Swain in Quincy, Ill., and she passed away Feb. 5, 2012.

Bob was a graduate of Cathedral High School. He retired from Wonder Bread/Hostess Cake in 1985 after 26 years of employment as a salesman. Bob was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and was a avid Notre Dame fan. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include five daughters, Ann (Harvey) Phillips, Kokomo, Cindy (Rod) Vaughn, Muncie, Cheryl (John) McMahon, Indianapolis, Sandra Swain, Kokomo, and Mary (Dane) St. Clair, Kokomo; one son, Kevin (Trudy) Swain, Yorktown; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia Webley, Evansville, Sharon (Bud) Werner, Evansville, and Mary “Toots” (George) Praed, Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by wife, Maxine Swain; parents, Louis and Catherine Swain; and four brothers, Louis “Bud,” William, Thomas and Allen.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, with Rev. Father Ted Dudzinski officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. scripture service at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road. Entombment will take place Thursday with military rites following the funeral services at Sunset Memory Gardens.
