Kenneth E. Dahl Sr.

Aug. 29, 1932 - Jan. 17, 2013

Kenneth E. Dahl Sr., 80, Greentown, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born Aug. 29, 1932, in Waukegan, Ill., to the late Oscar L. and Florence M. (Bloom) Dahl. On Aug. 10, 1957, in Salina, Kan., he married Delores Settgast, who survives.

Ken served his country in the United States Air Force, enlisting in December 1951. He attained the rank of technical sergeant during his service, which spanned the Korean War and Vietnam War, until retiring in May 1972 as a boom operator at Grissom Air Force Base.

In addition to his military career, Ken was the owner and operator of Dahl’s Standard Service station in Greentown and was later a professional truck driver.

He was a member of Meridian Street Christian Church, Moose Lodge, Greentown Special Police and American Legion Post 317. Ken enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, riding his motorcycle, NASCAR races and hauling for a number of NASCAR races. Most of all he loved his family and enjoyed helping his grandkids whenever and wherever they needed him.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Dahl, Greentown; children, Kenneth E. (Julie) Dahl Jr., Peru, Rhonda (Retus) Thomas, Fort Wayne, Pam (Gary) Tiedeman, Kokomo, Florence (Phil) Hollis, Tennessee, and Robert (Kim) Dahl, Greentown; grandchildren, Christopher (Marie) Thomas, Blake (Christina) Dahl, Cory (Kristin) Tiedeman, Hunter (Mackenzie) Hollis, Blaine (Bailey) Dahl, and Ashley and Allyson Priest; great-grandchildren, Kiryn and Kameron Dahl; a brother, Oscar Dahl, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and four sisters.

Services celebrating Ken’s life will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Pastor Dave Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Marion National Cemetery, with military rites provided by the United States Air Force. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
