— Joe L. Thompson, 78, Kokomo, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 19, 1932, in Haleyville, Ala., to Lewis and Willie (Hopper) Thompson. On June 7, 1958, he married Beverly Thompson, and she survives.

He had worked at Chrysler for 30 years before retiring. He was a very giving person and a good handyman and especially enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren. He attended Woodland Church of God, taught Sunday school for 30 years and was a Bible scholar. He loved country music and playing his guitar.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Daniel J. (Barbara) Thompson, Justin W. (Kristin) Thompson and Eddy (Bunny) Thompson; five daughters, Teresa A. (Bob) Walsh, Sheila Butcher Morrow, Audrey S. Rawlins, Brenda (Floyd) Broadway and Martha Elhehert; 13 grandchildren, Adam, Samantha, Nathan, Chad, Ashley, Hunter, Kyle, Eric, Ryan, Taylor, Jourdan, Hayden and Jade; five great-grandchildren; and out of state, 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Edgar Rawlins officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
