Betty L. “Billie” Peters, 85, West Lafayette, passed to be with her Lord on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at her residence. She was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Indianapolis, to the late Frank and Freda Billeter.
She graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, attended Butler University during World War II, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1949. On Sept. 24, 1949, she married William J. Peters in Indianapolis, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2008. She worked with her husband at Schraders-Kokomo Inc. from 1960 to 1978, when they retired and sold the business.
Betty was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church, Caring Paws and All Star Greyhounds, as well as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. She enjoyed playing with the Dulcimer Gathering, and taking her rescue greyhounds to nursing homes, schools, the Indiana Veterans’ Home and greyhound gatherings. Her caring, selfless attitude in all her endeavors was evident and appreciated by all she touched with her love and compassion.
Surviving are her children, Susan Peters Young (husband, John), West Lafayette, William “Joe” J. Peters Jr. (wife, Dai), West Lafayette; grandchildren, Hannah L. Young, Indianapolis, and Aaron J. Young, Chicago. Also surviving is a sister, Helen M. Merrill, Saratoga Springs, Utah. Betty was preceded in death by a sister, June Ringenberg.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at Central Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jeff Cover officiating. Those wishing may contribute to Habitat for Humanity. Leave condolences at www.soller-baker.com.
