Kokomo —
Dr. Clifford “Corky” Rohrer Williamson, 78, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. He was born March 9, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Edith (Bird) Williamson.
Dr. Williamson was a 1952 graduate of Kokomo High School, where he played basketball for the Wildkats. He went to Indiana University on a basketball scholarship and received his bachelor of science degree in physics and math in 1956; he went on to graduate from the school of optometry, receiving his doctorate degree in 1958. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, and played basketball for I.U.
Upon his graduation he joined the Air Force and was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps until 1961. After completing his duties in the military, he returned to Kokomo to open his optometry office in 1962, and continued practicing for over 40 years.
Dr. Williamson was involved in many boards and memberships throughout his career, including board of directors for Union Bank, Ameritrust, Society, and Key Bank; IU Varsity Club; IU I-Men’s Association; YMCA Century Club member; Chamber of Commerce; member of the Kokomo Country Club since 1962, and served on the board; Rotary Board; Indiana Optometric Association; American Optometric Association; and Grace United Methodist Church
Corky was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed playing basketball, golf, tennis, running and lounging by the pool in his off time. He spent many seasons attending IU varsity sporting events and enjoyed tailgating with the family.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loved his family very much. He truly enjoyed spending as much of his spare time involved in all aspects of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He married his love on Dec. 25, 1963.
He is survived by his wife, Karen (Pfleger) Williamson; children, Craig (Alie Jones) Williamson, Carmel, Chris (Maura Holihan) Williamson, Kokomo, Kelly and Matt Rowley, Indianapolis, sister-in-law, Kathy (Terry) Grim, Kokomo; grandchildren, Wyatt, Cooper, Noah, Ella, and Ava Williamson, Parker, Paxton, and Pierce Rowley; and his beloved Yorkshire, Mia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Private family services will be at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home and Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Jon Tice officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden. Friends and family may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
