Clarice Eileen Beahrs

June 23, 1921 - Dec. 7, 2012

Clarice Eileen Beahrs, 91, Kokomo, went to be with the Lord at 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital. Born June 23, 1921 in Howard County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Earl Newcom Sr. and Margaret (Stephens) Newcom. She graduated from Howard Township School in 1941, and remained an active high school alumni for 30 years. She married Ted E. Beahrs Oct. 25, 1942, in Logansport. He preceded her in death Nov. 27, 2006. God welcomed her into his family at baptism on April 14, 1945, and confirmed her baptismal vows through the rite of confirmation on June  24, 1945.

Clarice worked most of her life in local retail stores and performed in-store demonstrations. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She always enjoyed her family, her life, and enjoyed frequent trips to St. Louis to spend time with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, and a member of the United Commercial Travelers. Her love and belief in Jesus Christ was always strong. She was a loving and caring person who welcomed friends and family into her home and lovingly cared for several family members during their time of need. She had lived at Jefferson Manor for the past five years, where she was touched by compassionate staff and residents.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce and husband, Morris Garbert, Florissant, Mo., Connie McIntosh and companion, Larry Boughton, Tipton, and Beverly Sue Beahrs, Kokomo; three sons, John and wife, Kokomo, Dylis Beahrs, Kokomo, Tom and wife, Wenona Beahrs, Kokomo, and Mark and wife, Laurie Beahrs, Fishers; two sisters, Patricia Baker and Mary Lou Irwin, both of Kokomo; one brother, Jerry Lee and wife, Linda Newcom, Kokomo; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her pet cockatiel TJ, whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Larry W. Beahrs Sr.; one sister, Barbara Indrutz; and two brothers, Jesse Earl Newcom Jr. and Billy Newcom.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 705 E. Southway Blvd., Kokomo. Pastors William Allison and Barry Akers will officiate. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, Kokomo. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo; also one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday.

He was born Nov. 1, 1951, in Danville, Ill., the son of Denver Ralph and Sarah (Walthall) Walker. On June 7, 1997, he married Cynthia L. “Cindy” Hultz from Veedersburg, and she survives him.

Fred was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Kokomo, to the late Emmett and Dorothy (Clark) Bagwell. He graduated from Kokomo High School.

    Christine “Granny” “Mother Goose” Cornelia Ligon, 96, Kokomo, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. She was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Baron Plain, Tenn., the daughter of the late Tommy and Laura (Turner) King. On July 21, 1934, Christine married Timothy Calvin Ligon Jr. and they were happily married until his passing on Nov. 3, 1956.
