Beverly A. Shay

Feb. 26, 1930 - Dec. 15, 2012

Beverly A. Shay, 82, ended her long-fought battle with Parkinson’s peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at her home in Sugar Grove Senior Living in Plainfield. She was born on Feb. 26, 1930, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Art and Melba Ferriday.

Beverly lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger. She enjoyed her job as a teller at Union Bank and Trust during the 1970s and ’80s, where she made many friends. Some of her greatest loves were playing the organ, cheering on Purdue football, The Red Hat Society, the Kokomo Music Club, and was also a longtime member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Kokomo. She was an active 4-H mom for all of her children. Following their retirement, Beverly and Ed spent their winter months in Tucson, Ariz.

Beverly is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Edward J. Shay; son, Brent Shay (Terri) of Plainfield; daughters Lisa (Ed) Rhodes, and Michelle (John) Crump, Mooresville; grandchildren, Monica (Jeff) Webb of Houston, Texas, Blake (Shelby) Shay, Fishers, and Cameron Rhodes, Kylee Rhodes, Molly Crump, Aaron Crump and Abby Crump, all of Mooresville; and her great-grandchildren, Blythe and Eve Webb of Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her by her daughter, Debbie Ann Shay; brother, John Ferriday; and her parents, Art and Melba Ferriday.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff and caregivers at Sugar Grove Senior Living, and Seasons Hospice for their loving care and support.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor John Crump and the Rev. Nancy Blevins officiating. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A private family committal service and burial will take place at a later time in New London Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Indiana Parkinson’s Foundation, 10936 Gresham Place, Noblesville, IN 46060. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
