Sue Ann Ward

Feb. 17, 1954 - Feb. 22, 2013

— Sue Ann Ward, 59, Kokomo, died at 9:26 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis. She was born Feb. 17, 1954, in Michigan City, the daughter of Ben and Georgia Makowiak. On Aug. 5, 1977, in Michigan City, she married Marc A. “Andy” Ward, and he survives.

Sue Ann was a 1972 graduate of Marquette High School in Michigan City. She was a 1976 graduate of Ball State University, and earned her Master’s in education from Valparaiso University. She served 28 years as a teacher for Sts. Joan of Arc & St. Patrick School, and several parochial schools in Michigan City. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Sue Ann is survived by her husband; her parents, Ben and Georgia Mackowiak; sister, Kim Downey and husband Ed of Kallispell, Montana; sons, Bryan Ward, Indianapolis, and Patrick Ward and wife Michelle, Chesterton; grandchildren, Keith, Michael and Catherine Ward; nephew, Alik Downey; and niece, Jackie Goodwin.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Mackowiak.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1230 N. Armstrong St., Kokomo, with the Rev. Fr. Ted Dudzinski the celebrant. Burial of cremains will take place Thursday in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Michigan City. Friends may call on the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Joan of Arc & St. Patrick School for the Tuition Assistance Program or the school library. Online condolences may be directed to www.shirleyandstout.com. Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted the family with arrangements.
