Raymond E. Onyett

May 23, 1927 - Dec. 16, 2012

Raymond E. Onyett, 85, Kokomo, died due to an extended illness on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 23, 1927, in Oakland City, the son of Aubrey and Martha (Williams) Onyett.

Raymond served his country as part of the Army Air Force at the end of World War II. He was a member of Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene and previously of Brookside Free Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was an active part of the church. Raymond worked at Delco Electronics.

Raymond and Gail Onyett were married on July 29, 1949, in Mount Carmel, Ill., at Free Methodist Church. They were married for 62 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Onyett; his parents, Aubrey and Martha (Williams) Onyett; one sister, Mary Hickey; and one sister-in-law, Hilda Onyett.

Survivors include daughter, Karen (Ralph) Wilson, Belmont, N.Y.; son, Jeff (Pam) Onyett, Kokomo; grandsons, Kyle Onyett and Alex Onyett, both of Kokomo, and Vincent Wilson and Michael Wilson, both of Belmont, N.Y.; brothers, Ralph Onyett, Lake St. Louis, Mo., and Robert (Helen) Onyett, Petersburg; sister, Nellie (Carl) Hepker, Westfield; brother-in-law, Ray Hickey of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nine nephews; and three nieces.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. David Leeder officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International for Bibles or Guardian Angel Hospice. Online messages of condolence may be made at www.sunsetmemorygarden.com. Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
