Man leaves a poor impression

Donald Henry of Kokomo sends this Jeer:

“This Jeer is addressed to the man I am glad I didn’t meet at The Waffle House on Jan. 23.

“I had won a toy that they had in their store and sat down at my table to enjoy my dinner. I had won two toys, and there was a little girl in there that was trying to win something, but she didn’t. I went back to the machine to see if I could win her something.

“While I was at the machine the second time, a man walked past me and called me a bad name. I didn’t know he was talking to me, and I went over and ate my lunch. This man stared at me until he left. I gave the little girl one of the toys I had won, and she was very happy. We then left and went to Wal-Mart.

“I was sitting on a bench waiting on a mobility cart and in walked this man and his family and, again, he called me the same name, and I finally realized he was talking to me. All of this because I had won a toy that he was trying to win, unknown to me, for his son.

“If he had been a nice person and had come to my table and told me he was trying to win the toy for his son, instead of cussing me, I would have handed the toy to him.

“I will carry this toy with me for awhile. And if I see this man again, I will give his boy the toy and tell him that not everybody is like his dad. But his father could not buy the toy for $100.

“I sure didn’t deserve what his dad called me, and I know there are still good people out there. He just doesn’t happen to be one!”

Family appreciates your kindness

Madonna J. Beal of Golconda, Ill., sends this Cheer on behalf of the Freda Eller family:

“There are no words that can express our gratitude and appreciation for all that you did for mother during her illness and the things you did for us, as her family, since her death. Each prayer, card, call, food contribution, floral arrangement and memorial made in her name has been very special to us.

“We would especially like to thank the First Brethren Church for the meal they prepared for us and the Rev. Herendeen for being with us at the hospital and the funeral service.

“To Robert Baker and his staff, we would like to say thank you for assisting us in a most professional manner. The Clarion fifth-floor nurses and ICU nurses went above and beyond their duties to care for mother. We will always be grateful for their services.

“We want to thank everyone for all they did in our time of loss. May God bless each and every one of you.”

Cindy Brown of Kokomo sends this Jeer:

“I was informed by Shine 99 radio from Frankfort that they would not be playing any of Adam Lambert’s music on their station. They also said that most, if not all, of the Kokomo stations would not be playing his music, either.

“I, for one, am a huge Adam Lambert fan and love listening to him sing. He was the runner-up on ‘American Idol’ in 2009 and has a beautiful voice. I am very upset over this.

“Shine 99 said that they will never play his music, partly because of his performance on the AMA Awards. It is my opinion that they are showing double standards here. They play music by Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears and Madonna, all of whom have performed grotesquely on stage.

“I thought we listened to stations that played music, not politics!”

All ‘helped to make it easier’

“I wish to thank all the people who helped Russ and I cope with his last days:

“• St. Joseph Hospital’s third-floor staff and all the doctors that took care of him during his hospital stay.

“• St. Joseph’s in-home nurses for taking such good care of him after he returned home.

“• Guardian Angel Hospice for helping us during his last days. Especially the nurse (I can’t remember her name) who was with us during his passing. She was wonderful.

“• Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, who made sure all of Russ’ requests were fulfilled, making it easier on his family.

“• Carpenter’s House Church for the delicious luncheon and the use of their church.

“• Pastor Paul Sutherland and Kenny Cochrell for their eulogies.

“• WWKI and the Kokomo Tribune for letting the public know what a generous and kind man he was.

“• And last, all of you who called, sent cards and prayed for us during this time.

“It is the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with, and you all have helped to make it easier.”

Toyota recall front-page news

“I want to send this Jeer, aimed at the Kokomo Tribune. Let’s see if this one makes it in the paper!

“Why is it that when Chrysler has a recall of only 25,000 vehicles, it is front-page news? Then Toyota has a recall of 2.3 million – yes, 2.3 million autos – and it is printed on the fourth page!

“Please, I would love to hear the excuse for this one!”
