Blood drive collects 60 pints
Drasadria Hogan, Brian Hogan and Ahronda James send this Cheer for some special blood donors:
“This letter is sent to thank the Kokomo community, especially Maple Crest Middle School, for its overwhelming support of the blood drive in honor of our brother, Dan Hogan, former Maple Crest principal.
“The school blood drive, let by teacher Vicki Boles, collected more than 60 pints of blood, which exceeded the number for last year. Dan would be truly honored to have such a life-saving event conducted in his memory.
“The school is now on spring break, but we wanted to be sure to acknowledge the community for thinking of our brother.”
Not ‘that kind of person’
Ruth Avery of Russiaville sends this Jeer:
“I very recently was involved in an accident (not my fault), and my name came out in public on a police scanner as ‘a hit-and-run driver wanted.’ So, now I have a few messages to be made public, too. There will be no public details of what happened.
“First of all, I have no cell phone, and there was no sign of any police car at any time at the scene. My first message is to any and all of the cowards around us who could have called the police but didn’t want to for fear of ‘getting involved.’
“My second message is to the person who waited ’til I drove away, had a cell phone and could have called for help. But, instead, chose to wait ’til I left, took my license number, called the police then and gave them a false report of hit and run. All completely false. Under the circumstances, if I had been ‘that kind of person,’ no way could it have even happened!
“My third message is to the police department, which put my name out in public in such a way. If not sure, how much better to check out a possible lie from a caller like the above person by going to the person first? In spite of this, I still have admiration for all the police do that is good.
“And last of all, I did call the police department as soon as I got home, and my insurance company.”
Tri-Central talent abounds
Judy Peters of Sharpsville sends this Cheer:
“On Saturday night, my husband and I attended the Tri-Central musical, ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ The performance given by the vocal music department was outstanding.
“While watching the musical, I was amazed with all the talented students and adults in the Tri-Central community.
“A big thank-you for a great job.”

Karickhoff acted ‘cowardly’
The Rev. Robin Wentworth Mayer and Horst G. Mayer of Kokomo send the Jeer for state Rep. Mike Karickhoff’s silence during the “right-to-work” debate:
“Mr. Karickhoff, for someone who’s new to office, you’ve certainly learned the art of talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Editorial - Feb. 2, 2012: Peru delivers a message
The issue: Peru’s collection of $20,000 last year from property owners who failed to keep their yards mowed.
Our view: Aggressive enforcement can help a city’s finances, but the benefits go beyond dollars and cents.

Karickhoff: Reason behind my ‘right-to-work’ vote
There is no doubt the “right-to-work” debate has brought mixed emotions, not only to our state but District 30 as well. There were only a handful of House Republicans who did not vote in support of this legislation. Let me explain why I felt it was necessary for me to vote in opposition to right to work.

Heinig: ‘Right-to-work’ law to arouse continued resistance
I wouldn’t call Gov. Mitch Daniels a charismatic leader, but he does possess some leadership skills. If he didn’t, he couldn’t have brought us this far along the happy trail to his economic Valhalla.
