Thrifty earns trust, business
Sarah Scott of Kokomo sends this Cheer for a local business:
“Knowing for some time that I have needed brake repairs, and being unable to further tolerate the noise, I finally bit the bullet and began searching. I phoned Thrifty Auto Care, 1100 N. Washington St., and questioned the owner, Paige. I made an appointment with her, arrived early and nervously awaited the brake inspection.
“The certified technician, Jason, was courteous, pleasant and very knowledgeable in answering each and every question I posed. He explained exactly what the needed repairs were and gave me an upfront, straightforward price.
“Thrifty Auto Care has been in Kokomo for many years, and I can see why! Thrifty Auto Care, at this location, has been open just over a year and offers many other automotive services and repairs. Give them an opportunity to help you with your car! I will highly recommend Thrifty Auto Care to anyone who has auto needs. They earned my trust and future business!”
Sale raises funds for Wi-Fi system
Gordon Southern, director of the Walton-Tipton Township Public Library, sends this cheer:
“The Friends of the Walton Public Library raised almost $1,000 toward a community wide wireless Internet system during their rummage sale. A big thanks to those who donated, those who worked and to those who purchased.
“The system that the library, Main Street and Friends are looking at purchasing would provide free Wi-Fi Internet service to all of the Walton area. This should allow most of the community to have an Internet connect at no cost. The receiver would need a Wi-Fi card for their computer if they do not already have one. Most laptops come with a Wi-Fi card, many desktops do not.”
Candy collection gives soldiers a treat
Carrie Giannakos, with Jarrell Orthodontics, sends this cheer:
“On behalf of Jarrell Orthodontics, Family & Cosmetic Dentistry of Kokomo, and the soldiers we have adopted in Afghanistan and Iraq, I want to thank those families in Kokomo who took part in our first Halloween Candy Buy Back. We collected more than 80 pounds of candy, which has been sent to soldiers overseas so they can enjoy a ‘taste’ of Halloween back home. To all who participated, thank you. Your troops will certainly appreciate the candy you gave up. Your orthodontist and family dentist appreciate your giving up some of the sweet stuff this Halloween as well!”
Church puts on big meal
Jill Snyder of the Mental Health Association sends this Cheer to Center Road Church of Christ for sponsoring the annual Thanksgiving dinner for the Social Club consumers.
“They hosted over 225 people with ham, turkey and all the trimmings on Nov. 16.
“A grateful thanks to Rusty Maynard, church staff and all the youth volunteers for making this a great event.”
Here’s to a full recovery
Cindy Babb of Kokomo sends this Cheer to the staff at St. Joseph Hospital:
“I would like to thank Dr. Nowak and the St. Joseph Hospital Day Surgery staff for treating my father so well during his recent visit for two outpatient procedures. Every step of the process, from check-in to check-out, was so well orchestrated. Beverly Rounds, the registration clerk, was kind and efficient. The nursing staff, led by Judy Lauderbaugh, was top notch. Their professionalism, thoroughness, patience and attention to detail make the day surgery team the absolute best!
“We are so blessed in this community to have a hospital whose mission and values are evident through the actions of every single employee and volunteer. St. Joseph Hospital has always been and remains my hospital of choice!”
Fundraiser a scary success
Mark Jensen sends this Cheer for those who made a We Care fundraiser a success.
On behalf of Silas Murphy and family, I would like to send out a big cheer for all the hard work in raising over $1500 for We Care during the five nights of the Silas Murphy’s We Scare Haunted House. None of this would have been possible without the offering of the house by local real estate entrepreneur Steve Hart.
Other businesses that stepped up to the plate to make this happen include T-shirt sponsors, Clean Cut Lawn Care, Perkins Contracting, Moonlight Mold and Machine, Scoops Ice Cream, The Wyman Group, Lucas Home Furnishings, Star Building, Nick Pate of State Farm, and Jansens Asphalt and Tax Service.
In addition special thanks goes out to Rochio Kiley Insurance, ADI Screen Printing, Signs Express, The Bridal Shop, Dominos Pizza, Halloween USA, Brad Bagwell of Bagwell Events and Ad-Bencher. All of these people were instrumental in helping Silas continue to raise money for the less fortunate in our community.
Last but not least, a special thank you goes out to Larry “Rancher” Rance and his crew who spent so many hours setting up, tearing down and working all those hours during the haunted house just for the joy of knowing their work will provide a blessing to the less fortunate in our wonderful community.
Help through a difficult time
Raymond Jr. and Barbara Sebree send this Cheer to the community:
“We, the family of Marlon Delon Sebree, wish to acknowledge, with our most sincere appreciation, the comforting messages, flowers and all other expressions of kindness and concern extended to us during this time of our sorrow.”

Karickhoff acted ‘cowardly’
The Rev. Robin Wentworth Mayer and Horst G. Mayer of Kokomo send the Jeer for state Rep. Mike Karickhoff’s silence during the “right-to-work” debate:
“Mr. Karickhoff, for someone who’s new to office, you’ve certainly learned the art of talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Karickhoff: Reason behind my ‘right-to-work’ vote
There is no doubt the “right-to-work” debate has brought mixed emotions, not only to our state but District 30 as well. There were only a handful of House Republicans who did not vote in support of this legislation. Let me explain why I felt it was necessary for me to vote in opposition to right to work.
