Events support Urban Outreach

Jeff Newton, executive director of Kokomo Urban Outreach, sends this Cheer:

“What a wonderful day Saturday, Nov. 7, was for Kokomo Urban Outreach. Two events took place on that day which will support the programs offered by Kokomo Urban Outreach.

“The first event was sponsored by Daisy’s Sip ’n Dip. Daisy’s provided a percentage of its sales to KUO to help provide Sunday evening meals in our ‘Neighborhoods of Hope.’ The day ended with a wonderful concert by Steven Sherwood Jr. A love offering was collected at that concert, and Steven provided 50 percent of that offering to support the many programs of Kokomo Urban Outreach.

“Our thanks to the owners and staff of Daisy’s, Steven Sherwood Jr. and the many individuals of the community for your participation in these events.”

Citizens help when needed

Kim Burton sends this Cheer:

“My husband, Jason Burton, was one of the officers in the vehicle pursuit which took place early Nov. 27. I was riding with him during his shift. As the vehicle chase took place in the Markland Mall parking lot, my husband was directly behind the suspect.

“The suspect then left the mall parking lot by traveling through the ditch between the mall and U.S. 31. My husband attempted to follow the same route as the suspect, however his patrol car got stuck in the ditch.

“Within seconds, people were pulling off of U.S. 31, and others were coming from the mall parking lot to assist us. They all began pushing the patrol car and were able to get it turned around so my husband could continue in the pursuit.

“I just want to say thank you to those who helped get us out of the ditch. It was approximately 2:30 in the morning and about 27 degrees outside, yet these people did not hesitate to help us.

“It was a great feeling to know that the Kokomo police officers have citizens in the community that were willing to help them when needed.”

Ministry fills 11,661 shoe box gifts

Bill and Teresa Waggoner, Operation Christmas Child volunteers, send this Cheer:

“Thank you to all who helped with Operation Christmas Child. 2009 has been a fantastic year!

“We want to give a special thank you to The Eternals for helping us promote the Operation Christmas Child at our Countdown Celebration event.

“We would also like to say thank you to the Kokomo Tribune and the Kokomo Perspective for the articles about the power of a simple shoe box gift. Also, a special thanks goes to the St. Joseph Hospital Day Surgery nurses who volunteered their time and to Kohl’s management for the donations and their employees who came out to work.

“We thank our church family, Brookside Free Methodist Church, for its support of the ministry. We would also like to thank the following businesses, Marsh Supermarket on Southway Boulevard, Dan Beheler of Village Pantry, Stan Rybolt of Humphrey Printing, Marilyn of Rue 21, Lynn Reed of Kokomo Honda Motorcycles and Roadway Express.

“We also want to thank everyone who packed a shoe box or came out to work. Together, we packed and shipped 11,661 shoe box gifts (Gospel opportunities). This exceeded our goal and set a record for us locally.

“Kokomo is the collection center, but we couldn’t do this without the rest of our Relay Center team. We have Relay Centers in the following areas: Rochester, Monticello, Logansport (2), Royal Center, Peru, Bunker Hill, Tipton, Goldsmith, Rossville, Frankfort, Lafayette, West Lafayette and Alexandria.

“These shoe box gifts will be shipped around the world to children who have never received a gift before, and at the same time they will be given the opportunity to hear about ‘the Greatest Gift of All,’ Jesus Christ.”

“We would like to thank all the people who shared their time and gave donations for a barbecue benefit for Sharon Bosley, who is going through a lot of doctor appointments and therapy due to cancer.
