You’re invited to the debates

THE ISSUE:Political debates before the Nov. 2 local election.

OUR VIEW:Get a look at the candidates and vote.

Over the last several years, The Kokomo Perspective, Kokomo Tribune and WIOU have teamed up to bring you political debates in advance of primary and general elections.

We’re joining together again this political season. We’re hosting a series of debates beginning Oct. 6 at Inventrek Technology Park, 700 E. Firmin St.

If you want an up-close look at the candidates, we invite you to join us. And if you can’t, the debates will be broadcast live on WIOU-AM 1350 and televised at a later date on KGOV, the City of Kokomo’s TV station.

We’ve said this many times before: Most of us live in this part of Indiana because we care about our families, friends and neighbors who live here, too. With blessings come responsibilities. You have a stake in your community. We encourage you to get registered and vote in the general election Nov. 2.

Voter registration ends Oct. 4, so take a moment to verify your voting status by calling the Howard County voter registration office at 765-456-2219.

THE SCHEDULE:

All debates will take place beginning at 6 p.m. at Inventrek Technology Park, 700 E. Firmin St. Each is expected to last one hour. Here is the lineup:

• Oct. 6: Indiana House District 30, incumbent Rep. Ron Herrell, D-Kokomo vs. Republican city councilman Mike Karickhoff.

• Oct. 13: Howard County sheriff, independent Rich Ferguson, Democrat Harold Vincent and Republican Steve Rogers.

• Oct. 20: Howard County commissioner, incumbent Democratic Commissioner Dave Trine vs. Republican County Councilman Paul Wyman.
