Stanbrough grabs win; Darland earns nice payday

While his Fox Brothers’ Racing Team was readying another race car, Avon’s Jon Stanbrough jumped into the Phillips Racing No. 71 and found victory lane in sprint car competition Friday night at the Gas City I-69 Speedway.

Stanbrough, who has been victorious 16 times so far in 2010, held off Matt Westfall and Josh Spencer to claim the 25-lap win. Jerry Coons Jr. piloted the Hoffman Racing No. 69 to fourth while Brett Burdette continued his run of solid performances, finishing fifth. Defending track champion Shane Cottle was 15th aboard the Edison Motorsports/Crume-Evans Insurance/Bud’s Auto/Chalk No. 10E.

Veteran Scott Orr took the win in the Modified feature over Bub Patrick. Aaron Orr was third, J.D. Francis fourth and Greg Socha fifth. Ron Flaugh earned the Thunder Car feature over one of the hottest drivers around, Jason Shrout. Mark Keith, Travis Nichols and Josh Owens completed the top five. Steve Clark was 10th.

Multi-time track champion James Headley took the Street Stock win over Ervin Turner and Ben Williams. Scott Apple was fourth and Jeff Baldauf fifth.

The track will host the Lewis Morgan Memorial this Friday night. Racing is slated to begin at 7:30.

Darland scores big win

Lincoln’s Dave Darland earned a hefty payday with his win Saturday night.

Competing at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas, Darland won the $10,000-to-win feature event aboard the Goodnight Racing/Pallet Builders No. 39. He finished second a night later at Kokomo.

USAC News, Results

Shane Hmiel worked past Levi Jones on the 11th lap, then set sail the rest of the way in USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series action Sunday afternoon at the Winchester Speedway.

In the points battle, Jones leads Damion Gardner by 72 (1,717-1,645). The series returns to action Sept. 10 at the Lincoln Park Speedway for the Billy Marvel Classic.

The USAC Silver Crown Series was slated to compete Saturday at the Springfield (Ill.) Mile in the Tony Bettenhausen 100, however wet grounds forced the postponement of the event. No date had been announced at the time of this writing.

Forman wins again

Young Cameron Forman scored his 13th win of the season Saturday night at the U.S. 24 Speedway in Logansport.

Competing in the Junior division, Forman earned the win over Tate Price, Kameron Butcher, Gabe Wilson and Levi Johnson. In the Restrictor class, Craig Ronk was victorious over Craig Swartz and Jason Miller. Justin Weir and Bradley Jameson rounded out the top five.

Nate Lauderbaugh claimed the win in the non-wing division, topping B.J. Wilson, Logan Jarrett, Tyler Courtney and Billy Cribbs. Blane Culp took the winged division A-main with Taylor Courtney, Tyler Courtney, Jarrett and Chris Miller rounding out the top five.

Dennis Corcoran topped Tom Corcoran for the Senior feature event. Tony Carlson was third, Mike Stahl fourth and Bob Harrington fifth.

Miami County

A week ago at the Miami County Speedway, Logan Jarrett earned his fifth win of the season in the Winged feature event.

Joe Taylor was second, Kris Knox third, Randy Shilling fourth and Ron Dennis fifth. Braiden Black picked up the Restrictor feature over Zach Shepler and Shelby Larson. Barbie Kimmel and Jacob Melvin were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Jered VanNess took the Junior win over Seth Ireland, Kameron Butcher, Garrett Johnson and Jacob Bigger. The Senior feature was won by Rob Parish with Cory Angle coming home second. Jim Ray was third, Greg Baer fourth and Joe Taylor fifth.

Jordan Lambert picked up the non-wing win with Brandon Rose taking second, Laine Hite third, Sam Kimmel fourth and Kylee Brown fifth.

The track returns to action Saturday night with its weekly program.
