Boys basketball week tips off tonight

Northwestern’s boys basketball team faces a busy schedule this week with games tonight, Friday and Saturday. Tonight, the Tigers (5-5) visit North Miami (1-11).

Also tonight, Taylor (4-10) hosts Sheridan (8-3). Sheridan, which is coached by former Tri-Central standout Cory Dunn, opened the season with six straight wins but has gone 2-3 since.

It’s penultimate week for girls regular season

The girls basketball regular season is entering the stretch drive, with games this week followed by the state tournament draw on Sunday, and then the final week of the regular season.

Western girls move into 3A rankings

Western’s girls basketball team moved into the Class 3A rankings this week, settling at No. 10 a week after beating No. 3 Benton Central. The BC girls fell a spot to second. Western (15-3) also has split a pair of games with new No. 2 Lebanon this season.

Eastern’s girls are ranked No. 8 in Class 2A, down a spot from last week.

On the boys side, Tipton held its No. 3 ranking in Class 2A following an overtime victory over Kokomo on Saturday. The Wildkats fell from the Class 4A rankings with that loss.

 

Local softball team takes tourney title

WEST LAFAYETTE — The Howard County Thunder 13U girls softball team won the USFA Old Man Winter tournament Sunday at the Family Sports Center. The Thunder posted a 5-1 record in winning the 11-team tournament.

Team members are Alexis Clark, Chase Epp, Lexi Jackson, Crystal Metz, Carlie Ritchie, Lexy Sanders, Bailey Thatcher, Meg Tuberty, Morgan Tuberty, Paige Ward and Holy Widner. The squad is coached by Troy Clark, Rusty Ritchie and Chris Tuberty.
