S. Ind. police chase ends when car runs out of gas

Petersburg — Police say a pursuit ended in southwestern Indiana when the car that was fleeing from a state trooper ran out of gas.

State police say Trooper John Davis began chasing the car early Tuesday after he spotted it going 100 mph on Ind. 61 near the Pike County town of Petersburg. But the car ran out of gas and stalled in Petersburg and the driver ran off before being caught a couple of blocks away.

Twenty-year-old Jonathan Gerber-Bateman of West Baden Springs was being held without bond Tuesday in the Pike County Jail on charges of resisting arrest and reckless driving. A passenger also was held.

It wasn't immediately clear whether either man had an attorney.
