Ind. man wants deer antlers he was promised by DNR

Indianapolis — A central Indiana man who helped authorities catch a deer poacher wants the Department of Natural Resources to hand over the rack of antlers he was promised.

Tom Miller pointed a Hendricks County sheriff's deputy toward the hunter convicted in December of illegally killing a 10-point, nearly 300-pound buck nicknamed Nightmare. Conservation Officer Jeff Wells told Miller he could have Nightmare's antlers.

The Indianapolis Star reported Wednesday that DNR now won't hand over the rack because it's worried Miller might try to sell it or it might make other hunters jealous.

Miller's attorney has sent a letter to the Natural Resources Commission and the DNR's director demanding the antlers be given to Miller. The letter states Miller has helped officers in at least seven poaching cases in the past.
