3 missing rafters found safe on C. Indiana river

Waverly — Search crews found a man and his two young sons who were missing overnight after they left for a rafting trip on the White River in central Indiana.

State conservation officer Angela Goldman says the 35-year-old man and boys ages 6 and 9 were found safe Thursday morning by a searcher on an air boat.

Goldman said they started rafting about 5 p.m. Wednesday near the Morgan County town of Waverly and were reported missing after not arriving at a pickup point about 6 miles downstream.

She said that an air boat and a state police helicopter searched the river southwest of Indianapolis for several hours Wednesday night.

Goldman said the river was unusually low because of recent dry conditions.
