W. Ind. educator honored for 2nd Heimlich rescue

TERRE HAUTE (AP) — A western Indiana educator has been honored for using the Heimlich maneuver to save the second middle school student in five years from choking.

The Vigo County School Board recognized Woodrow Wilson Middle School dean Dan Raubuck on Monday for rescuing a sixth-grader last month who was choking on food at the school.

The Tribune-Star reports that incident was the second time in about five years that Raubuck has used his Heimlich maneuver training to aid students choking on food during the Terre Haute school's lunch period.

He told school board members that just two weeks before the recent incident, he was recertified at a school building in CPR, the Heimlich maneuver and the use of a defibrillator.
