Ind. man must support artificially conceived kids

Indianapolis — An Indiana court says a divorced man must pay child support for a boy and girl his then-wife artificially conceived with sperm from another man.

The Court of Appeals on Wednesday rejected the Delaware County man's argument that he shouldn't have to pay child support because the children were not his biological offspring.

Court documents say a friend provided the sperm for artificial insemination when the couple was unable to conceive on their own. The woman performed the procedure without a doctor. She claimed her then-husband gave his consent, but he denied it when he filed for divorce in 2010.

A local judge ruled the kids were children of the marriage and the ex-husband was obligated to support them. The appellate court upheld that decision.
