Indy Art Museum to host major Matisse collection

Indianapolis — The Indianapolis Museum of Art will host a major exhibition of paintings, sculptures and works on paper by French artist Henri Matisse later this year.

The museum announced Thursday the nearly 80-piece exhibition will open Oct. 11 and run through Jan. 12.

The exhibition is drawn almost entirely from a collection at the Baltimore Museum of Art, which the IMA calls one of the most comprehensive collections of Matisse's art in the world.

IMA Director Charles Venable says the show will include Matisse's famous cutouts, works from right before his death in 1954, and musical performances in the galleries inspired by Matisse's Jazz portfolio.
