The leader of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s central Indiana chapter says she anticipates perhaps 26,000 participants for its April 21 Race for the Cure. That’s down from more than 37,000 last year.
The drop follows a move by Komen’s national leaders early this year to end funding to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screening that was soon reversed.
Central Indiana Komen chapter director Dana Curish tells The Indianapolis Star that the actions angered both sides in the abortion debate.
The chapter raised about $2.6 million from last year’s race.
