Indianapolis — The Indiana House has approved a bill that would set a 30 mph speed limit for mo-ped users on the state's roadways.
The measure approved Monday on a 75-18 vote now heads to the Indiana Senate. The bill also calls for mo-ped operators to drive on the right-hand side of the road, except when preparing to make a left hand turn, and to register the vehicles with the state Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Republican state Rep. Tim Neese of Elkhart has pushed for limits on mo-ped speeds. He tells The Elkhart Truth that many accidents in Elkhart County involve mo-peds.
He says this year is the third time in the last six years the issue has come before lawmakers.
